Serial changes in fasting plasma glucose levels as predictors of type 2 diabetes
3/5/2006
In this prospective cohort study on 5296 male employees, aged 31 to 44 years, an increase in fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels from baseline to the first follow-up, though still within the normoglycemic range, was associated with a significant higher risk for type 2 diabetes. Assessments of serial changes in FPG levels may thus help to identify healthy individuals at risk for developing diabetes.
