Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality associated with the metabolic syndrome.

The cardiovascular morbidity and mortality associated with the presence of the clinical features of Metabolic Syndrome were quantified in a large cohort of men and women from the Botnia Study. It was reported that the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality was respectively increased by 3-fold (p<0.001) and 1.8-fold (p=0.002) in subjects meeting the clinical criteria of the Metabolic Syndrome emphasizing the relevance of assessing in clinical practice, the presence of the Metabolic Syndrome.
